Mission Statement

Poems Heal Creative Arts Center is a multidisciplinary therapy practice which focuses on the use of poetry / journal writing, psychodrama and other creative arts for the purposes of self-expression, exploration and transformation. The Center provides educational and therapeutic services to both groups and individuals and serves a wide developmental range including: children, adolescents, adults, families and couples.

Philosophy

Poems Heal Creative Arts Center focuses on wellness not on illness. The Center believes that true healing takes place through empowering each person’s ability to create, express and transform personal metaphors, either in action or in writing.

The Director

Nancy S. Scherlong, CSW, QCSW, RPT is a qualified, clinical social worker specializing in the use of creative arts in healing. She is a graduate of Adelphi University, a registered poetry / journal therapist and a psychodramatist-in-training. Ms. Scherlong is the current Membership Vice President for the National Association of Poetry Therapy. She has specialized training in treating trauma and addictions and offers a range of programs for children, adolescents, families and women. She accepts a variety of insurance plans as well as provides a sliding scale for those who are uninsured or who wish to go outside of insurance.
